FAQ: About Crowns and Bridges
Q: Why do I need a crown?
A crown may be suggested after root canal treatment or for broken teeth. This is because a crown will protect the remaining tooth structure, and ensure that the tooth will not break. A crown may be suggested for cosmetic reasons as well.
Q: Why should I replace the tooth, I can still eat properly?
When a tooth is removed, it affects function. You may learn to manage, but long term it would also affect your chewing, and jaw joints, causing soreness of head and neck muscles, and/or ear aches. Sometimes, it may be too late to do anything about your problems, as they become more complex over time. Therefore, it is best to replace the tooth, sooner rather than later.
