Dentures and Mouthguards
Care For Smiles uses the services of dental technicans and dental prosthetists for the construction and fitting of
- full and partial dentures
- immediate dentures
- soft reline dentures
- acrylic partial dentures
- metal framed partial dentures
- flexible dentures
- tooth addition
- professionally fitted / custom made mouthguards
- bleaching trays (stents)
- occlusal splints (night guards)
Our technicans can also repair and re-line dentures or add teeth to existing dentures.
Prior to fitting a mouthguard or construction of a denture, Care For Smiles usually recommends a check-up with the dentist to ensure there are no underlying issues that may impact on the outcomes.
A partial denture is a removable appliance replacing one or more missing natural teeth.
A full denture is a removable appliance replacing all of the natural teeth.
Professionally fitted mouthguards greatly reduce the chances of tooth damage or laceration of lips and mouth. Care For Smiles does not recommend the so called "boil and bite" mouthguards from chemists and sport shops because they do not fit properly and the protection they offer is minimal.
Fitted mouthguards are available in a variety of colours. A professionally fitted mouthguard requires a visit to the clinic to make an impression of the teeth.A child will usually need a new mouthguard every 6 to 12 months because their mouth is changing shape so quickly.
Bleaching Trays (stents)
For custom-made bleaching trays (or stents), an impression of your teeth is required. The bleaching tray is molded to the impression. The bleaching trays are used with take home bleaching kits. Please keep the trays after bleaching since refills can be purchased at low-cost to maintain the whiteness of your teeth.
An Occlusal Splint (also called a night guard) is a removable dental appliance molded to fit the upper or lower arches of your teeth. Similar to mouthguards, an impression of your teeth is made which is then used to make a mold. Occlusal Splints are usually worn at night to reduce the amount of pressure from grinding of teeth.
